Structural Steel and Miscellaneous Metals Takeoff Services
Steel is bought by the ton but erected by the piece, so a takeoff that gives you tonnage alone tells you nothing about erection cost. We count members individually — mark, size, length, weight — and roll them into tonnage afterwards, which means the same takeoff answers both the fabricator asking for weight by shape and the erector asking how many pieces are landing on how many days.
What we count on a Structural & Metals takeoff
- Beams, columns, braces and girts by mark, section, length and calculated weight
- Open-web steel joists and joist girders counted by mark and span
- Metal deck by area and type, separated by gauge, profile and finish
- Base plates, embeds, anchor bolts and shear studs counted individually
- Connection counts by type — shear, moment, bracing — as an erection-hour driver
- Miscellaneous metals: stairs, handrails, guardrails, ladders, bollards, lintels, grating and pipe supports
- Tonnage summary by shape family so the mill order and the fabrication quote can both be checked against it
What you receive
A member-level schedule with a tonnage roll-up by shape, plus a separate miscellaneous-metals tab counted by assembly. Deck is reported as area by type with an allowance for laps and edge trim shown as its own line rather than buried in the area.
How we handle Structural & Metals scope
- Weights come from the section designation on the drawings, so a takeoff against a set with an incomplete steel schedule is reported as incomplete rather than estimated.
- Stairs and railings are counted as assemblies — risers, treads, landings, linear feet of rail — because pricing them by weight consistently understates them.
- Where erection sequencing matters to your bid, tell us at request time and we will split the member schedule by area or level.
